GENERAL SUMMARY:
Under general supervision, demonstrates ability to handle nursing problems and, in general, an expanded group of nursing practices. Performs nursing intervention across a variety of nursing situations. Identifies patient problems prior to explicit changes in patient-specific data collection (such as vital signs).
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Clinical:
- Provides individualized, short and long term outcomes directed nursing care to patients and families through the nursing process.
- Conducts an initial and ongoing assessment of the patient and family health status, focusing on patient needs
- Performs a comprehensive assessment that includes current and potential nursing needs during hospitalization
- Selects nursing diagnosis and collaborative problems that accurately reflects the patient current needs
- Develops and revises the plan of care based on shift assessment and projected future needs
- Integrates, coordinates, and prioritizes patient needs with other health care personnel, the patient and family
- Performs nursing interventions to accomplish short and long-term patient outcomes
- If there are difficulties implementing the plan of care, seeks out appropriate resources and develops creative solutions to accomplish positive outcomes
- Evaluates progress to short and long-term outcomes
- Revises nursing diagnosis and collaborative problems to reflect changes in patient/family need
- Follows all relevant Hospital clinical guidelines and policies
Education/Credentials:
- Graduation from an accredited school of Nursing.
- Current RN licensure by the Michigan State Board of Nursing.
- BLS, ACLS, TNCC, AND ENPC required
Experience/Qualifications:
- Must have minimum 18 months of Nursing experience working in an ED environment. Demonstrated level of performance and practice is required.
- Must have ED experience within the past six months.
- Clinical knowledge and analytical abilities necessary to formulate effective nursing care plans.
- Ability to perform a wide variety of professional nursing services.
- Ability to effectively communicate with patients, families, and hospital personnel.
