Financial Analyst II - Health Alliance Plan - Troy (full-time)
General Summary:
Supports the development of the annual budgets and five-year financial forecasts. Assists with financial and statistical analysis of budgets and forecasts to ensure sound conclusions and recommendations. Assists in the preparation, monitoring, and reporting requirements related to the annual budget for Health Alliance Plan and its subsidiaries. Supports in the preparation of the five-year financial forecasts in conjunction with the strategic planning process.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Accountable for assisting in the development of the annual budgets including forecasts, projections and trend analyses.*
Assist with follow up on any issues related to submitted budgets and/or forecasts with appropriate department leadership to obtain support / clarification for identified items. *
Assist in summarizing approved budgeted/forecasted capital items and calculate required annual depreciation. *
Support coordination and the distribution of the monthly budget performance reports (BPRs) to department management.
Assists with variance analysis; including review and reconciliation of membership, revenue, medical expense, & administrative expense budgets and forecasts to actuals.
Maintain Axiom budget and financial reporting software system including user security, table maintenance, query design, and template/report development. *
Assist with preparation of data analytics and financial reports to senior management related to overall company performance. *
Support annual external benchmarking survey, including data gathering, review and submission.*
Assist in coordinating bi-annual assessment of administrative expense allocations across companies and product lines. Significant interaction with departments regarding time studies and expense identification.
Assist with claims data reconciliations between HAP systems.
Provide analytical support to Provider Finance and Financial Analysis departments as
needed.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Essential functions.
Education Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree with a major in Business, Finance or Accounting.
Experience Required:
- Minimum two (2) years overall progressive experience in budgeting/forecasting or accounting
- Minimum two (2) years of work experience in health care finance
Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent analytical skills.
- Self-motivated and ability to work independent of supervision.
- Multitasking and ability to meet tight deadlines.
- An advanced level of knowledge and/or technical skill set of, but not limited to, Microsoft products (i.e. Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint) as well as an understanding of query building, relational databases and related software.
- Knowledge of accounting procedures, statistical and financial analysis techniques, forecasting and budget analysis.
- Aptitude towards computer based information retrieval systems
