Provides inpatient medical care of orthopedic patients with the supervision but not necessarily the presence of a qualified physician member of the medical staff. Takes patient history, performs physical examination, orders and interprets tests, makes diagnoses and institutes appropriate treatment programs. Works in collaboration with staff physicians, house officers, nurses and other members of the medical care team to ensure that patient outcomes are achieved in a safe and efficient manner. Specific procedures are individually credentialed as indicated by training and experience. 
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: Requires a Bachelor�s Degree; completion of an AMA approved Physician Assistant program; and Michigan state licensure and continued certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistant (NCCPA). Requires good verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills as well as organizational skills, familiarity with computers, and excellent analytical and decision- making skills. Ability to react to crisis situations quickly and effectively using department protocols and guidelines.

Previous experience in orthopedics is preferred.
