Security Officer - Unarmed, Contingent, Henry Ford Hospital
GENERAL SUMMARY:
Under general supervision, unarmed Security Officers are responsible for protecting the site’s building, grounds, assets, employees, patients and visitors against criminal activity, accidents, fires and natural disasters, as well as providing outstanding customer service.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Must provide excellent customer service when dealing with Patients, Visitors, Customers, Employees, Co-Workers, etc.
- Manage posts – this may include building lobbies or reception areas.
- Monitor surroundings on closed-circuit television.
- Conduct hourly foot patrol of interior and exterior to check entrances, doors, windows and vents are locked and secure against break-ins (includes climbing stairs).
- Ensure unauthorized persons do not enter restricted areas.
- Maintain access control of visitors during/or after normal visiting hours.
- Patrolling facilities & properties or manning posts to provide security presence.
- Detecting suspicious activity and threats to property or people.
- Watch for criminal activity and responding based on training.
- Subdue resisting subjects using hands and feet while employing defensive tactics, maneuvers or approved non-lethal weapons.
- Observe and report criminal activity to Security Police Officer, Security Leader, Supervisor and/or Manager or local police authority (if appropriate).
- Check for employee and vendor identifications.
- May direct traffic on the premises and issue parking violations.
- May provide security escorts for facility employees, patients and visitors.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- Associates’ Degree required.
- College coursework in Criminal Justice, Security Administration preferred.
- 1-3 years healthcare security experience preferred.
- Must successfully pass a psychological evaluation.
- May be required to use an intermediate weapon.
- Maintain a valid unexpired Michigan operator’s license.
- Satisfactorily complete state minimum training certification requirements and required testing. Annual training and testing requirements must be maintained.
